Over the last 5 weeks I did spend a fantastic time in this country full of contradictions. It has a Western system but cannot be compared to any other Western society. It is an Asiatic country but cannot be compared to any other Asiatic country. In this strange land avant-garde rock is as popular as flower arranging. Bunraki, the centuries old puppet theatre, and tea ceremonies are still flourishing while you see the most eccentric dressed youngsters. You can find Zen gardens along with the most exciting nightlife. The salary men are formal during work hours but can be found minutes later drinking lots of sake in one of the many bars or gambling in one of the many psychedelic Pachinko casino’s. Japan has thousands of beautiful gardens and temples but also streets full of thousands of neonlights. Japans cuisine is special and authentic but every restaurant presents what it has to offer with plastic food displays at the entrance.
For sure, Japan still has a very own culture of which we don’t understand everything. Good for them. I enjoyed every second of my stay in their society. I like the country and the people.
